It can be better if you are with someone. This can be a better security measure. The more you are in a room or at the hotel who know each other, the safer you will feel and the safer you actually are.

If you can choose a room to have, one on the higher floor may be better. These will be safer against burglary or other related dangers. But, you need to make sure that you know where the fire exits are and where you need to pass through.

All these measure while you are staying at cheap hotel rooms can be a little too extreme. But, you need to remember that we are talking about safety and you can never be too careful.
